My Enchanting 10-Day Vacation in Surrey, South East England
Surrey is a British county where the idea of spending 10 days was more than perfect to combine relaxation, touring, and discovery. This beautiful country in the region of South East England left me impressed by its beautiful scenery, an historical past, and lively population. Here is a diarized breakdown of my fantastic holiday in Surrey.y
Day 1: Getting there and the appeal of Guildford Guildford was the first town that made me feel very welcome with its fascinating cobbled high street and a tight-knit historic core.
As soon as I reached the station, I checked into a cozy Inn in the middle of the town and the next morning I wandered along the High Street and was surrounded by beautiful architecture. The highlight of the day was heading to Guildford Castle, as none of the children had been there before.
Having reached the top of the Great Tower, I was able to view the amazing sight of the great town and the verdant fields in the distance. Dinner at The March Hare was just the right tone, pleasing range of English food, and warm and friendly atmosphere to top off my first day.
Day 2: Hiking around the Surrey HillsThe next morning I woke up filled with the desire to go exploring nature and hence I headed off for Box Hill. I can happily say that Surrey Hills AONB was as beautiful as they said it was.
The walking trails here provided some of the most fantastic vistas that I have ever come across, with flowing hills and the beautiful green land cover as far as the eye could manage to see. After the exhausting hike, I went to Denbies Wine Estate in Dorking. It was informative taking the guided tour, and the wine tasting was also an added advantage.
Dorking itself was lovely as it offered various antique shops and small independent boutiques. Sorrel restaurant was eye-opening when it came to dinner; food there really showcased the best parts of each season.
Day 3: A Trip Through Time, my third day was alloted for history. Hampton Court Palace was the first attraction on my itinerary and as I took a tour of the palace and the well detailed gardens, I felt as though I had been transported back to the times of King Henry VIII.
Brooklands Museum in Weybridge was the place where I spent the afternoon where I gazed at impressive collections of cars, motorcycles and early aircrafts. At the Minnow, situated by the river Thames, it was truly an atmosphere of romantic dining because of the effect created by the flow of water in the background.
Day 4: Gardens and ParksOn the fourth day, the beauty of Wisley Gardens impressed me to the extent that words seemed inadequate to describe my feelings on that day. RHS Garden Wisley has been one of the best places that I have been to for the purpose of gardening as it boasts of a rich collection of plants and a glasshouse that was amazing, it was like being transported to a tropical environment.
The second part of the day was spent at Painshill Park and with the help of a wild, interesting garden, it turned out that every time I had to turn around there was something new and beautiful to capture. Eating at the Ivy Cobham Brasserie in Cobham was a true dinner, fitting for the end of the day spent in the midst of beautiful sceneries.
Day 5: A few highlights of the day included: Day five entitled ‘Artistic Beginnings’ took the learners to discover the art history of Surrey. The Watts Gallery, Artists’ Village in Compton was an eye opener and understandably so; here were displayed Victorian artist George Frederic Watts works in an artistic environment.
Loseley Park and Elizabeth house was as enthralling though it was a manor house as well. Strolling around the house and grounds guided by a young lady was also informative and peaceful. A visit to the Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford and the excellent performance that I saw there in the evening brought the much needed culture into the day.
Day 6: Indulgence and RelaxationThe first activity for the sixth day was a tour at the Silent Pool Distillery in Albury that provided the best indulgence experience. The guided tour was educational as well as entertaining as was the gin tasting session.
Through the tea we tasted the English culture at its best – the food was tasty and the location of Great Fosters yeilded historical charm. During a visit in the evening in Egham, I strolled along the Runnymede meadows and before retiring to bed, enjoyed a delicious meal at the Barley Mow.
Day 7: Village Charm and History on the seventh day we visited Shere Village and it was just like being on one of those greeting cards. Shere was particularly interesting to wander around with its cobbled streets and fine Victorian architecture used often in filming scenes.
The presence of the local church and a number of charming cafes contributed to enhancing the overall outlook of the village. Farnham Castle which was constructed during the 12th century was the next place that I visited.
It was a beautiful experience to see the grounds of the castle and to take a guided tour of it as well. Finally, visiting The Castle Inn located in Farnham to take dinner was a perfect way to bring the day of historical discovery to a close.
Day 8: Outdoor Adventures: The physical exercises were conducted at Frensham Ponds which offered the most conducive environment for the exercise in the morning. Whether it was a walk, swimming or paddle boarding the natural reserve was a peaceful experience amidst the heathlands and forests.
The afternoon was more eventful, and the group visited Hindhead Commons and the Devil’s Punch Bowl, which consisted of lots of walks and stunning views. Haslemere is a beautiful market town that was my first stop in the evening. The meal at the hotel’s restaurant using fresh and authentic local food was quite lovely.
Day 9: Art and Culture in WokingThe Lightbox Gallery and Museum in Woking was one of the most enjoyable experiences in my ninth day. I found contemporary art exhibitions as well as local history interesting and educational.
My next visit was to Polesden Lacey, an Edwardian house and estate. The guided tour of the house and the beautiful gardens were the best way that one could spend the afternoon. A trip to a show at the New Victoria Theatre in Woking in the evening provided the much needed cultural highlight of the day.
Day 10: Conclusion of Surrey trip. On the last day of the Surrey trip I slept in Guildford, and after having an early breakfast I had a round of shopping and got some souvenirs. On the last night, I walked to the river again and contemplated the really wonderful days I spent in Guildford.
Saying goodbye to Surrey was rather sad, as I took with me lots of memories that I had during an amazing vacation full of marvelous nature, history, and diversity.
Surrey has scenic beauty, cultural heritage, and lively towns, all of which made the experience rather engaging and varied. Every day was filled with extraordinary events and interesting sights, which made my 10-day trip one of the most exciting tours in one of the most beautiful English counties.
Pros and Cons of My 10-Day Vacation in Surrey
Pros

Cons
Travel and Navigation:
