A Magical 9 Day Escape to Grenada: Our Island Adventure
Grenada or colloquially referred to as the “spice Island of the Caribbean” was an ideal place for my wife and me to get rid of the stress of work and daily life routine. This small island, popular for its rich soil famed for growing nutmegs, lovely, quiet and tropical beaches envisaged a lovely, quiet and active discovery of this young island.
A 9 day holiday trip to Grenada was adventurous, mysterious and full of romance as a couple, food lover and also fun seeker, it could not be better. Durante, here is the narration of our great and marvelous journey.
Day 1: Arrival in Paradise
The heat, the friendly reception from the people and the culture overcame us from the moment that we first touched the soil of Grenada through the Maurice Bishop International Airport. Our senses were awakened instantly and the water mixed with spices prevalent round this island felt great. People I met were very friendly and they greeted us warmly as that is an expectation from friends we were going to meet on this trip.
A short drive to our resort revealed Grenada’s breathtaking landscapes: gorgeous views of long uninterrupted blocks of suburban development, ascending rolling hills, deep greens, Caribbean sea glistening in the sun and numerous houses painted in pastels.
The holiday resort that we were going to spend our time at was on the sandy beach exclusively, the Grand Anse beach, famous for its white sand. As it was there were wonderful vistas of the ocean, children’s open air swimming pools and customer direct beach which turned the place into a perfect resort. Upon arrival there was a nice welcome of cocktails which were served as Rwandese rum syrup and tropical fruits.
Desiring to travel around, we started walking under the dusk, admiring the lovely view of the skyline next to the sand on which we sank slightly into the ground. The water was clearer and we felt that it was safe to take a swim and there was no way that we were going to let this opportunity pass by without actually taking the chance.
For lunch we went to the restaurant that is within the resort and this restaurant is positioned close to the beach and offers sea foods that are caught from the sea and prepared to be consumed by the clients, it was in the evening and the brilliant oranges and pinks of sunset were gorgeous. Not to refer to having a good day or even to say that a day in paradise is not a cliché, but to express the first day in Grenada.
Day 2: Exploring St. George’s
The second day in Grenada was spent travelling around St. George’s – the liveliest town of the island. St. George’s is situated in a stunning horseshoe bay, and many believe that this town is one of the most beautiful on the Caribbean islands. We started our day at the Carenage which is a very busy commercial street with beautiful and colorful boats, coffee shops and great architecture. There was a fishy smell in the air and spices mingled with it, a sign of the legacy of culinary culture of the town.
It was just a ten-minute walk to reach Fort George that is located at the hilltop overlooking the harbor. Originally constructed in the first half of the eighteenth century, the fort provided wide vistas over the town and the sea. In particular, the historical exhibits and cannons were interesting in regard to the colonial history of Grenada.
After that, we proceeded into the lands of St. George’s to tour the Market Square. This vibrant and noisy market offered a wide range of the local food, spices and homemade souvenirs to the tourists. Thus, we could not afford to leave the place without buying some nutmeg and a perfectly crafted basket for souvenirs.
Food was sampled at a local restaurant during lunch time and I got to know the Grenadian foods. We also tasted such delicacies as callaloo soup and roti, both of which were packed with rich taste. Our day was spent walking around the town; the streets were narrow; however, murals painted on the walls and lots of friendly people made the impressions of St. George utterly pleasant. Visiting St. George’s was an enlightening historical and cultural experience that enriched my knowledge of Grenada.
Day 3: Underwater Sculpture Park
On our third day, we explored one of Grenada’s most unique attractions: the sculpture park in the underwater world known as the Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park. This underwater art gallery has been designed by Jason deCaires Taylor, and positioned close to the island’s west coast; this gallery is a beautiful combination of art and life forms. To be able to fully appreciate the beauty of the park, we arranged to take a snorkeling trip.
Swimming into the waters, now sparkling turquoise, one got an opportunity to see arts like children holding hands in a circle known as ‘Vicissitudes,’ but being gradually restored back into the sea by coral growths and fish. All the works described a story; some of them were about the protection of the natural environment and about people being together.
The experience was rather creepy so real and magical at the same time, which emphasized the close connection between art and nature. I found it as a strong message, an important statement about the need to safeguard our oceans. I think there is no need to say that our dive at Molinere Underwater Sculpture Park was something that cannot be described with any words and can only be experienced.
Day 4: A Day at Grand Anse Beach
Our sightseeing on the fourth day was aimed at the most famous beach of the island – Grand Anse Beach. What might be expected from an idyllic Caribbean beach, is a two-mile expanse of kilometre white sand beach and clear, blue waters in Grand Anse Beach. The first thing we observed was that we got to the beach early and it was dark and empty, few people were awake during that time; they were just having their morning walk.
We woke up early and went swimming in the beautiful sea with water still warm and clear as water from a well. They made a gentle stirring to the boat and that made it ideal to just float and recline. We rented armchairs and parasols, and we spent a lazy day at the beach, enjoying sun, sand, and snapshots. Vis-à-vis this characteristic of the beach, we were quickly infected by the mood of the place, and we relaxed fully.
For lunch to try the local tastes and seafood, we walked to a café located on the beach and had lobster, shrimp, and fish grilled or fried with local spices. The food was delicious and even more of an experience by the delicious combinations the venue’s beach side offered.
Afterward, we walked around the place to visit and interact with the local people who were selling souvenirs such as handmade jewelry and colorful and beautiful sarongs. We also bought a drink from a coconut vendor, the coconut water that accompanies it is often a delight to the palate given its taste once tapped from the brown shell under the scorching sun.
It is essential to note that we concluded the day’s activities by taking a long walk along the shoreline as the sun went down with the sky painted orange and pink. After a blissful sigh of the sea view at Grand Anse Beach, I can say what more could one ask for in this beautiful island.
Day 5: Exploring the Rainforest
This meant that our fifth day in Grenada was spent venturing inwards into the islands’ busy green core – specifically the Grand Etang National Park and Forest Reserve. It is a lush natural park for lovers of nature with an ornate and rich plant and animal life, beautiful tracks, and the charming Grand Etang Lake – the volcano crater, filled with freshwater, located in the rainforest.
Thus our journey began with the fascination of an organized trek to the Seven Sisters Waterfalls trail. Their tracks led them through thick forest and one could almost hear the sweet melodies of birds and crunching of the leaves.
He also took our group around the area, explaining various medicinal plants and exotic flowers and thus making us understand more about the variety of natural resources possessed by Grenada. On our journey there we came across the playful Mona monkeys which made the trek a rather pleasant one.
The most beautiful part of the trail was discovering Seven Sisters Waterfalls – a group of beautiful waterfalls set among high trees in a beautiful grove. We had to swim in the awesome, clean water that gushed from the base of the waterfalls to the pool. The invigorating swim left us rejuvenated and ready for more exploration.
The next point of interest that was visited after the hike was the Grand Etang Lake. This is a volcanic crater lake and we were surrounded by beautiful vegetation and there was no ripple on the water and it was all green just like painting. Here, we had our picnic lunch while embracing the tranquility of the rainforest as well as the fresh and cool air that freely flowed around.
Going through the rainforest was truly an inspiring quest that made me feel a natural harmony and respect for Grenada. It was a day of both excitement and tranquility and we departed the park with an awe-inspiring yearning for the natural wealth of the island.
Day 6: Sailing and Snorkeling
The sixth day in Grenada was eventful, we went for a boat ride through the seas of Grenada and later snorkeling to evaluate the activities in the water bodies of Grenada. As for the sightseeing attractions, one should take a catamaran ride that will provide a full day island tour of Grenada. All the crew members were friendly and well informed, this made the trip fun and enjoyable.
This time we sailed back through the blue sea, the wind was practically touching the skin and the sun was getting warm on our bodies. The first of the island stops which we did was nudist snorkeling and it was located in one of the most deserted beaches. While wearing masks and fins, we dived into the warm water and saw beautiful coral reefs and turtles as well as different types of fishes.
Like the lunch the next day after visiting the islands on the catamaran, the tasty meals and seafood were invited. The rest of the day was spent cruising and anchoring for lunch in one secluded cove and swimming in a sandy beach which everybody seemed to enjoy. Took the afternoon to cruise to various incredible bays and undeveloped beaches that are beyond anyone’s imagination.
As it had been done the previous day, the day had been closed with a beautiful sunset seen at the deck of the resort with the sky looking Orange and Pink. Thus it became pretty thrilling and one could almost sense the scent of the Grenada coast.
Day 7: Culinary Delights
Day seven turned into a feast for our senses as we delved into Grenada’s wealthy culinary scene. We commenced with a go to a neighborhood cocoa plantation, in which we learned approximately the island’s famed chocolate production.
The tour took us via the complete method, from bean to bar, culminating in a pleasing tasting consultation. Each chunk of the darkish, rich chocolate turned into a testomony to Grenada’s remarkable cocoa.

Our 8th day in Grenada was dedicated to exploring its spellbinding sister islands, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. We started out early, catching a ferry from St. George’s to Carriacou, referred to as the “Land of Reefs.” The journey itself becomes a scenic satisfaction, with the glowing Caribbean waters and distant islands growing a picturesque backdrop.
Upon arrival in Carriacou, we were struck by means of the island’s unspoiled beauty and relaxed tempo of life. We commenced our exploration at Paradise Beach, a stunning stretch of tender white sand and clean, inviting waters. Snorkeling here became a deal, as we encountered colourful coral reefs teeming with marine existence.
After a fresh swim, we explored the captivating village of Hillsborough, where we mingled with pleasant locals and browsed through old fashioned stores selling homemade crafts and local items. In the afternoon, we took a quick boat ride to Petite Martinique, the smallest of the Grenada islands. This tiny, idyllic island is known for its seafaring history and untouched natural beauty.
We wandered through its peaceful village, staring at the boat-constructing techniques passed down via generations. The island’s serene beaches and crystal-clean waters offered an excellent place for rest. We loved a leisurely lunch at a nearby eatery, savoring freshly stuck fish and local cuisine.
The simplicity and calmness of Petite Martinique provided a stark evaluation to the greater bustling fundamental island, presenting a really perfect retreat. Our day trip to Carriacou and Petite Martinique changed into a highlight of our Grenadian adventure, revealing the numerous appeal and natural beauty of these lesser-known gemstones.
Day 9: Scuba Diving Adventure
On our ninth day, we plunged into Grenada’s underwater wonders with an exhilarating scuba diving adventure. Known for its colourful marine life and fascinating shipwrecks, Grenada is a diver’s paradise. We joined a guided dive with a good local dive save, eager to discover the renowned dive websites.
Our first dive changed into the well-known Bianca C shipwreck, often called the “Titanic of the Caribbean.” Sunk in 1961, this huge luxury liner now rests in deep waters, growing a hauntingly beautiful underwater landscape. As we descended, the silhouette of the delivery emerged, protected in coral and teeming with marine existence.

Swimming through the ghostly stays of the ship, we noticed schools of colourful fish, moray eels, and even a few barracudas. Next, we explored Flamingo Bay, a colourful coral reef known for its biodiversity.
The shallow, clear waters allowed for extremely good visibility, showcasing a kaleidoscope of corals, sponges, and an array of tropical fish. We have been mesmerized with the aid of the beauty of the reef, encountering sea turtles, parrotfish, and curious angelfish up near. The dive courses have been informed and ensured a safe, fun experience.
